Ok here is how I went about it.
I know I am gonna be flamed by those who have deep pockets, but anyway.....
I ordered a small battery tray from here for my Evo

It came to $82 including shipping.
I then went and shopped around looking for a battery to fit into the mini battery tray.
These were the dimensions...and it is the max size which the battery accepts.
L = 152 W= 88 H=161
So I bought a motor bike battery with the highest possible CCA (Cold cranking amperage) and AH rating I could find.
CCA = 220 @ -18 degrees C and AH = 14 amps.
It came to all of R330 ex VAT.
Works like a charm, car starts on the first swing.
Minor modification has to be done to make the lugs work.
I am not going to be winning any SPL sound competitions with this battery but it does the job just perfectly and it is only 4 kgs
This is were I bought the battery from
