Basic opening of the dash tutorial I'll post in due course.
In brief, open glove box, remove screw on side closest to door. Remove small panel. Remove screw that fastens the carbon fibre trim. Unclip cf trim all the way. starting from left hand side, working your way towards the steering wheel. Just keep tugging gently or use the Mitsu trim removal tool. On the right hand side vehicle is not easy to unclip trim close to steering wheel, take it easy.
Buy yourself the Mitsubishi ISO wiring harness to connect to the car kit.
This makes it very simple to hook up without needing to cut a single thing. Simply plug it all in. It's reference number 86151 and is the same as the outlander harness. You can pick them up from any Parrot dealer for around R250.00.
There is loads of space in the dash so no need to squeeze and battle. I removed the door rubber and the windshield post cover just pops off. I dropped the microphone down and it popped out in the footwell. A few cable ties ensured it stayed secured as I ran it to behind the dash. The LCD display of the car kit was easily fed through the dash, with the wiring neatly between the carbon fibre trim and radio facia. Double sided tape sticks the LCD in place. One thing to note. To ensure proper disconnection and shutdown of the car kit, swap the two power cables over (simply disconnect each at the fuse holder and connect to the other one). Some cars constant 12v and switched 12v are reversed on the ISO connector. This is the case with the Lancer.
Also, in the Lancer, there is no need to connect the mute wire, the Parrot kit just cuts into the the speaker outputs of the head unit and sends the phone signal to the speakers during a call. When the call ends, it reconnects the speakers to the head unit and your music continues to play. No mute needed.
About 2 hours later, I replaced everything in reverse order and hey presto, all works well! Enjoy!
I did a quick, temporary re-assemble to ensure everything worked:
My car an hour after getting it - my wife thinks I'm mad! You can see the car kit microphone hanging from the windshield post cover:
