Only problem is the clutch itself that goes quickly. _________________

I cant comment on the 6 speed, but the 5 speed is rock solid. Although as Dadaman said, the stock clutch needs replacing. _________________ ________________________

If you drag the Evo on a regular basis, the gearboxes will let go if abused, just like anything else.
The 6 speed boxes are "softer" than the 5 speed.
Change the oil on a regular basis and use the correct oil and it should be fine.
A bigger concern is the transfer case, but once you have fitted stronger/harder engine mounts and a engine torque damper you should be fine.
Use the correct oil in the transfer case and change it regularly, you should be good as long as you don't "overly abuse" it.
If money is no concern, you can always fit a Shep gearbox/transfer case
